Does smoking make your face look older earlier in life?
Absolutely. Smoking, in addition to its other effects on one’s health, is very damaging to the skin. Sun exposure and smoking are the two most common causes of skin aging. Smoking causes loss of firmness of the skin, with wrinkling. These include the wrinkles around the lips, particularly the upper ones, that give a characteristically aged look. These are sometimes referred to as “smoking lines” or “smoke lines”. Other aging signs attributable to smoking are a general “sag” of the skin, and a looser, hanging facial skin.
