Cosmetic surgery TV has taken over! Over the last few years, there have been more plastic surgery television shows than ever before. Not just people on “regular” shows that have undergone cosmetic procedures, but rather the concept of plastic surgery being the focus of the show.
The influence of these types of TV shows is unmistakable. Just like extensive coverage of celebrities online and in other media has lead to fashion and style changes, so to do the trends in cosmetic procedures increase.
Here is a brief run down of what you may have been missing!
Nip/Tuck is about two plastic surgeons and their (apparently) based-on-real-life-event stories. The setting is initially Miami and then LA. The show has been nominated for and/or won many Emmy and Golden Globe awards. The marketing tagline for the show brags: “Change what you can. Hide what you can’t..”
Extreme Makeover (ABC)
Extreme Makeover is a reality TV show where people volunteer to undergo cosmetic surgery as well as initiate changes in their looks and lifestyles. Many makeovers were impressive but the show did have at least one unhappy contestant who sued the show’s producers. There was also an ongoing spin-off called Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition where people’s homes were updated.

I Want a Famous Face (MTV)
If it’s one thing this show does, it acts as a comemrcial for cosmetic surgery among the younger crowd. In this reality show, people change their physical appearance to look like celebrities.
Miami Slice (Bravo)
Miami Slice is a mini-series about the lives of plastic surgeons in Miami.
Brand New You (Five/UK)
