What is a facial plastic surgeon?
April 30, 2009 by Editor
Facial plastic surgery is a sub-category of general plastic surgery. It can be cosmetic as well as reconstructive. Specialists who focus on the field of facial plastic surgery are called facial plastic surgeons. These specialists limit their procedures to the neck and head. They do not perform procedures below the neck such as breast augmentation.
Facial Plastic Surgeons may perform any or all of the following:
- Rhytidectomy (Facelifts)
- Rhinoplasty (Nose jobs: Reshaping of noses)
- Otoplasty (Ear surgery)
- Blepharoplasty (Lower eyelid surgery and upper eyelid surgery)
- Forehead Lift
- Submental Lipectomy (Removes the infamous “double chin”)
- Mentoplasty/Genioplasty (Chin implants/augmentation)
- Dermabrasion (Removes the upper layer of skin)
- Laser Skin Resurfacing (Reduces wrinkles, gives you smoother skin)
- Chemical Peel (Removes the outer layer of your skin)
- Facial Reconstruction
